On June 12, 2011, I received the greatest gift, the gift of life. My gratitude for this selfless act is indescribable. My donor is my angel. Without a liver transplant, I would not be here.

Since my transplant, I have found that being part of Columbia University Medical Center's Transplant Forum, and other organ donation volunteer opportunities, is a way I can express my gratitude. The Transplant Forum supports the progressive transplant research happening every day at Columbia. Advances in transplant research and medicine will help save more lives and extend the lives of transplant recipients like me, which is so crucial to the organ transplant process.

In my continued efforts, I also want to share my message with the world through my book, Surrender, What My Liver Transplant Taught Me About Control and Self-Acceptance. My book will take you on my transplant journey, reflecting on the important role of medical experts, innovative medicine, family and friends.

With your donation, you too, can help save more lives.

All the best, Dr. Michael and Jessica Zampieri
